Lecture: “The Peace Corps Experience”

Tuesday, Feb. 26, 7 p.m. in the Couture Room, “The Peace Corps Experience: An Insider’s View,” a presentation by recently returned Peace Corps volunteer Matthew Barison on his experiences serving in Uzbekistan and Romania, the history and mission of the Peace Corps, and an overview of the application process for aspiring volunteers. Free.
The whole story:
An inside glimpse of what it is like to be a volunteer in today’s Peace Corps will be offered at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Lewiston Public Library. Matthew Barison will present an illustrated talk on his experiences as a Peace Corps volunteer in Uzbekistan and Romania, where he spent two years teaching the English language and American history and culture to native teens. He will also give a brief overview of the history and mission of the Peace Corps and describe the application process for those interested in pursuing service with the Peace Corps.
Barison, age 25, graduated from Trinity College in Connecticut with a degree in English. Following his release from the Peace Corps in June of 2007, he has lived in Lewiston, where he works for Maine Campus Compact assisting VISTA volunteers in an effort to expand college opportunities for Maine residents.
