Fahrenheit 451: the film!

Tuesday, April 1, 7 p.m., at Flagship Cinemas in Auburn: As part of our Big Read celebration, Fahrenheit 451, a 1966 film directed by the highly acclaimed French filmmaker François Truffaut will be shown on the big screen by our community partner, Flagship Cinemas. Admission: $5.50.
In a future totalitarian and oppressive society, where books are forbidden, Guy Montag (Oskar Werner) is a fireman. The mission of firemen in this society with fireproof houses is to burn books at 451o F, the temperature of combustion of paper. Montag is married to Linda (Julie Christie), a woman whose life is consumed by interactive television. When Montag meets Clarisse (Julie Christie, in a double role), she questions him as to whether he has ever read a book, and Montag become curious. He decides to steal and read a book, twisting his view of life. Montag is soon found out, and he must decide whether to return to his job or run away knowing full well the consequences he could face if captured. This film is unrated, but suitable for middle school age and above.
