Giggles, guffaws and gasps of amazement are all on deck when the high-energy juggling team “TWO” performs for fun-lovers of all ages at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at the Multi-Purpose Center at 145 Birch Street in Lewiston. Admission is $2.

The dynamic young duo of Matt and Jason Tardy will present an action-packedTardy Boys juggling red shirts one-hour program showcasing everything from their trademark zany juggling antics to fire-eating, body contortions and classic pratfalls, all choreographed to an edgy yet upbeat panoply of original music. Their feats of skill are framed in a high-tech setting as they juggle various “props of doom,” execute mind-bending bodily maneuvers, and, in complete darkness, launch pulsing streaks of multi-colored light through the air.

The Tardy brothers are Maine natives who got their start as stage professionals as teenagers through an apprenticeship with Michael Miclon, founder of the Oddfellow Theater in Buckfield. This affiliation opened other doors, including the opportunity to train with world-renowned jugglers Michael Menes and Peter Davison as well as master mime Tony Montanaro. The brothers’ naturally competitive spirit, mixed with good-natured sibling rivalry, rocketed their juggling skills to dramatic heights in a short period of time. Keeping the act “in the family” has also benefited them in other ways, as they seem to possess an uncanny ability to anticipate each other’s moves on stage, which serves them well as they perform their deftly synchronized duet routines.

TWO has attracted much critical acclaim in their tours across the country and abroad, garnering applause at such venues as the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, the International Jugglers Festival, Princess Cruise Lines and even the White House in Washington, D.C., where they have performed three times. They have also appeared on television, including PBS’s “True North,” and “Sunday Morning” and “Inside Edition” on CBS.

TWO’s local performance on Saturday follows a series of shows for Lewiston elementary and middle school students as part of the district’s Wellness Week activities, in which the duo stresses the importance of goal-setting and making positive choices as they demonstrate their juggling prowess for the youngsters.

Tickets to the program at the Multi-Purpose Center are available at the door only, on a first-come first-served basis beginning at 6 p.m. the night of the performance. The doors to the gym will open at 6:30 for the audience to be seated. The event is sponsored by the Lewiston Public Library. More information is available by calling LPL cultural coordinator Cindy Larock at 513-3050.
