Great Falls Forum: “The True Cost of Coal”

Past Event ....... October 13th, 2011 — 12:00 noon

Thursday, Oct. 13, noon to 1 p.m. in Callahan Hall, the Great Falls Forum lecture series presents “The True Cost of Coal.” The program will be presented by members of The Beehive Collective, a “wildly motivated, all-volunteer, art-activist collective based in Machias, Maine.”

Beehive is best known for their detailed, over-the-top intricate, black & white, collaboratively-drawn storytelling graphics that use metaphors and cartoons of plants & animals to amplify stories told to them by communities on the frontlines of resource extraction, globalization, and climate change. These graphics are typically created during school or community residencies.

The Great Falls Forum is partnering with LA Arts to bring The Beehive Collective to Lewiston.  While they are here in Lewiston they will be working with Lewiston Middle School students as part of the LEAP Program, an after-school program administered by LA Arts.

All Great Falls Forum programs are free and open to the public.  Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch or to take advantage of the Forum’s partnership with Guthries Cafe and order from their menu in advance of the presentation; bottled water and coffee will be available at the Library.

The Great Falls Forum is co-sponsored by Bates College, the Lewiston Sun Journal and LPL. For more information contact the Library’s Adult Services Desk at 513-3135.
