Great Falls Forum: Establishing a Credible Government in Somalia
Past Event ....... November 17th, 2011 — 12:00 noon
Thursday, Nov. 17, noon to 1 p.m. in Callahan Hall, the Great Falls Forum lecture series will feature Prof. Ali Mohamed Aden, Director, Centre for Democracy and Political Reconciliation in Somalia, speaking on “Establishing a Credible Government in Somalia.” This event is free, open to the public and no reservations are required.
Over the last twenty years the peace and reconciliation efforts of the United Nations in Somalia have resulted in a disheartening series of failures and while the reasons behind this lack of success are numerous and complex, one international group is not yet ready to admit defeat. The Centre for Democracy and Political Reconciliation in Somalia has a roadmap for moving beyond the recent past and working through the network of clans and sub-clans to achieve the stability that has eluded Somalis since the early 1990’s. In his GFF presentation, CDPRS Director Ali Mohamed Aden will outline their plan and discuss the steps necessary to bring it to fruition.
All Great Falls Forum programs are free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch or to take advantage of the Forum’s partnership with Guthries Cafe and order from their menu in advance of the presentation; bottled water, coffee and tea will be available at the Library.
