The Book Club Day

Past Event ....... October 21st, 2012 — 2:00 p.m.

On Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m. the Library will be hosting a very special event in Callahan Hall dedicated to books & book clubs.  We’re calling it The Book Club Day and the primary goal will be to allow readers and book clubs in the greater L/A area to connect.  This program is free and open to all adults 18 and over.

The featured presenter for the event will be William D. Bushnell.  Bill is a dynamic speaker and a professional book reviewer with more than 2,100 reviews published in 35 magazines and newspapers.  He currently writes regular columns for two national magazines and three Maine newspapers and is a long-time member of the National Book Critics Circle.

The Library is also offering a book club interest survey for individuals in the L/A area who would like to join a book discussion group.  LPL will be using the survey results as a guide in setting up new book clubs that will meet in the Library this November.  Click here to take the survey.

The Book Club Day event will also feature a variety of web and print resources useful for individuals (and groups) looking for good books to read and discuss.  For a preview of these resources, click here.

The Library is also partnering with the Public Theatre to help promote their season-opening play entitled, “The Book Club Play,” a comedy about a book club that becomes the subject of a documentary film which captures the group in all its dysfunctional glory.  The play opens on Oct 19 and runs through Oct 28.

Everyone attending the Oct 21 library program will receive a discount coupon good for the Public Theatre production.  In addition, the Library is holding a free drawing to win tickets to The Book Club Play.

The Book Club Day is being supported by the Friends of LPL (a local non-profit organization that supports library activities) and the afternoon program will also be serving as the annual meeting of the Friends.  However, this program is open to the public and Friends membership is not required.

For more information on The Book Club Day program or the online book club interest survey, contact the library’s adult services staff at 513-3135 or LPLreference@LewistonMaine.gov
