Many and One Rally Commemoration

Past Event ....... January 11th — 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

ManyandoneLPL will be hosting and co-sponsoring a 10th Anniversary Commemoration of the Many and One Rally on Friday evening, January 11th from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

January 11, 2003 was a watershed day in the Lewiston’s history when the city hosted a rally to counter one being planned by an out-of-state group, the World Church of the Creator.  On that day in early 2003 thousands gathered on the Bates College campus to express support for Lewiston’s Somali refugee community.  For more on the original rallys see Tuesday’s front-page Sun Journal story.

The Friday evening Commemoration will include a moderated panel discussion reflecting over the past 10 years and exploring the lessons learned during the decade.  The program will also include entertainment and light refreshments.

Featured speakers on the panel will include former Three and One Cafe owner Mohamed Dini, Assistant City Administrator Phil Nadeau, Zam Zam Mohamud, Jama Mohamed, Bates College’s Heather Lindkvist, and minister Mark Schlotterbeck, a co-founder of the 2003 Many and One rally.  The Commemoration event is being co-sponsored by the City of Lewiston, Maine Council of Churches, Welcoming Maine, and the Lewiston Public Library.
