MLK Day Sunday Supper & Food Drive
Past Event ....... January 20th — 5:30-7:00 PM
Lewiston Public Library will host a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Sunday Supper & Food Drive on Sunday, January 20th from 5:30-7pm in Callahan Hall. MLK Day marks the beginning of the service year as millions of Americans honor the memory of Dr. King by contributing their time, talent, voice and money to improve their communities. At the MLK Day Sunday Supper, Lewiston Public Library is joining HandsOn Network, AmeriCorps Alums and generationOn, enterprises of Points of Light, to engage 250,000 individuals to become involved in acts of service through thousands of service projects and dialogue in more than 50 communities across the nation.
Anyone wishing to attend is invited to bring a dish for a community potluck, watch a short documentary and engage in a national conversation to discuss how your time, talent, voice and resources can make a difference within our community. If you’re able please bring a food item we will donate to Good Shepherd Food Bank.
Dr. King’s work and message impacted many aspects of our society and are more pertinent today than ever before. He invested a deeper meaning into the “beloved community” of America where brotherhood is a reality that does not allow poverty, hunger or homelessness to exist. “MLK Day is the perfect opportunity to kick-off a new service year by joining your community to offer your time, talent, voice and resources to community service,” said Michelle Nunn, CEO of Points of Light. “By spending time volunteering, we are bringing to life Dr. King’s dream for a better America.”
