A Complete Streets public meeting for bicyclists, pedestrians, and all street users will be held on March 3rd from 6 – 7 p.m. at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon Street, in Callahan Hall.  Craig Saddlemire, Chair of the Lewiston-Auburn Bicycle Pedestrian Committee, is encouraging community members to attend.  The Androscoggin Transportation Resource Center (ATRC) will host the meeting to discuss future Complete Streets implementation in the Twin Cities.

Both Lewiston & Auburn have nationally recognized Complete Street policies, and under Complete Streets, all forms of transportation must be considered in the design and construction of transportation facilities.

ATRC points out that, “Planning and implementing non-motorized, ‘Complete Streets’ transportation and recreational infrastructure is a specific  type of challenge. This Downtown Arterial Bike Study & Complete Streets Best Management Practices (BMP) Manual makes clear that Lewiston-Auburn is serious about advancing opportunities for bicycling and walking.  However, planning for and implementing Complete Streets requires more than the planning and construction of individual facilities; bikeways, sidewalks, and intersection design must address multiple challenges, feature truly context-sensitive design, and ultimately must be in step with fiscal constraints.”
