On Saturday, October 7th, the Lewiston Public Library is once again participating in nationwide Star Wars Reads Day. The fifth annual event will be held on the 3rd floor of the Library in Callahan Hall from 11 AM to 1 PM. All ages are welcome, and admission is free.

Star Wars Reads Day is a global celebration of books set within or about the beloved science fiction franchise. Thousands of libraries and bookstores participate each year, and Lewiston Public Library has welcomed hundreds of kids, teens, and adults in the first four years of the event. Interest is expected to be especially high this year, with the upcoming December release of new film Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

According to Carol Roeder, Director of Publishing at Lucasfilm, “Reading and Star Wars have gone hand-in-hand since 1976, when the novelization

of the original Star Wars movie was released. Over the years, many fans have discovered the joy in reading through Star Wars books, and we hope to continue encouraging more people to read.”

At the event, guests will be able to browse the Library’s hundreds of Star Wars-related books, ranging from picture books for children to adult paperback bestsellers, graphic novels, ebooks, and audio books. Guests will also be encouraged to assist the Rebel Alliance in taking down the Death Star (piñata) as well as take photos at the library’s Star Wars photo booth and with the Mandalorian Mercs and explore their crafty side with assorted Star Wars themed crafts.

Guests of all ages are encouraged to arrive in costume. All attendees will be entered in a raffle to win Star Wars books and other prizes. Assorted Star Wars Reads giveaways will be available, including posters, bookmarks, and more.

Star Wars Reads Day is a free all-ages public program. For more information, contact the Adult & Teen Services Desk at LPLReference@lewistonmaine.gov or (207) 513-3135. For updates to this event please visit our Facebook event here.
