At times, minorities, families with children, and people with disabilities are denied rental housing due to unfair and illegal practices known as housing discrimination. Fair Housing is a right guaranteed by state and federal law.

Anyone interested in learning more about Fair Housing laws protecting against discrimination in rental housing is encouraged to attend a free workshop entitled, “Fair Housing is Your Right!”  The workshop will be held Thursday, Nov. 2 from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St., Lewiston.

Pine Tree Legal Assistance, MaineHousing, and the Lewiston Public Library will be hosting the “Fair Housing is Your Right!” workshop. Patricia Ender, staff attorney and fair housing coordinator at Pine Tree Legal Assistance, will be the key speaker and will explain what constitutes housing discrimination, and the Fair Housing laws that protect renters. Ender will provide examples of discriminatory practices and advise what to do if anyone believes they have been discriminated against. Ample time for audience questions will be included.

The event is free and open to the public; no pre-registration is required.  French, Somali and Portuguese interpreters will be available.  Light refreshments will be available.
