Great Falls Forum: The Future of Arts & Culture in L/A

The 2019-2020 season of the Great Falls Forum continues on Thursday, January 16th, with a panel discussion on “The Future of Arts & Culture in L/A,” featuring Shoshona Currier, Director of the Bates Dance Festival; Rachel Desgrosseilliers, Founding Executive Director of Museum L-A; Adilah Muhammad, L/A Arts Downstage Coordinator; and Sheri Withers-Hollenbeck, public art advocate and owner of The Curio. The discussion will be moderated by Jim Parakilas, Chair of L/A Arts. The program will take place from 12 noon to 1 PM in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.

Constituencies for the arts and culture are changing rapidly in Lewiston-Auburn. In this Great Falls Forum panel, participants will discuss ways that our cultural institutions need to adapt and are adapting to provide exciting opportunities for these constituencies. The members of the panel, representing several local cultural institutions as well as self-supporting artists, will explore the coming idea of cultural life as an enterprise in which individuals, families, municipalities, schools, businesses, and civic organizations are constantly engaged with artists in renewing the looks, the sounds, the feel, and the thinking of their community. The moderator will ask questions, followed by time for questions from the audience.

The Great Falls Forum is a monthly, brown-bag speaker series featuring statewide and regional leaders in public policy, business, academia and the arts. The programs are free, open to all and no reservations are required. Coffee, tea and bottled water are provided for a donation at the event. The Forum is a co-sponsorship of the Sun Journal, Bates College, and LPL.
