On Thursday evening, March 24th at 6:00 p.m. we will be hosting Maine author Kate Braestrup to talk about her most recent book, Anchor & Flares: a memoir of motherhood, hope & service. Her presentation will be followed by a Q&A, book sale and book signing.

As a young mother Braestrup discovered the fierce protectiveness that accompanies parenthood. In the years that followed—through mourning her husband and the joy of remarriage and a blended family—she experienced the blessings and complications of that instinct.

But when her eldest son joins the Marines, Braestrup is at a crossroads: Can she reconcile her desire to protect her children with her family’s legacy of service? Can parents balance the joy of a child’s independence with the fear of letting go?

As Braestrup grapples with faith and fear—inspired by the families she meets as a chaplain and by her son’s journey towards purpose and fatherhood—she learns that the threats we can’t predict both rip us apart—and knit us together. Through her inimitable voice and generous spirit Braestrup lovingly touches on the complexities of parenthood and service, and Anchor & Flares reminds us why her writing is inspirational in the best sense.

Kate Braestrup serves as chaplain to the Maine Warden Service. She is the author of a novel, Onion, and several bestselling memoirs. She lives in Maine with her husband and their six children.

Copies of her new book will be available for sale at the event and a book signing will follow her talk. For more information, contact the LPL Adult & Teen Services desk at 513-3135 or LPLReference@Gmail.com
