Muslim Journeys film: Islamic Art Spots

Thurs. evening, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. in LPL’s Callahan Hall, the LPL/APL Muslim Journeys film series continues with a showing of Islamic Art Spots. A short discussion led by Reza Jalali, the Coordinator of Multicultural Student Affairs at the University of Southern Maine, will follow. This free, public event was made possible through a grant from the Maine Humanities Council.

Islamic Art Spots is a series of seven visual essays, written, developed and presented by Dr. D. Fairchild Ruggles, a professor of landscape architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Each video essay is approximately 10 minutes.  The topics covered are: Calligraphy; Mosques and Religious Architecture; Travel and Communication; Islamic Gardens; Islamic Textiles; Geometry; and Art of the Book and Painting.
