On Saturday, October 5th, come out to nationwide event Star Wars Reads Day! The second annual celebration will be held on the 3rd floor of the Library in Callahan Hall from 11 AM to 1 PM. All ages are welcome, and admission is free.

Over 1200 libraries and bookstores participated nationwide last year, and Lewiston Public Library had over 200 kids, teens, and adults in attendance. This year, LPL is welcoming back members of the Wampa Clan, who will arrive in costume and pose for photos as well as sign autographs.

According to Carol Roeder, Director of Publishing at Lucasfilm, “Reading and Star Wars have gone hand-in-hand since 1976, when the novelization of the original Star Wars movie was released. Over the years, many fans have discovered the joy in reading through Star Wars books, and we hope to continue encouraging more people to read.”

At the event, guests will be able to browse the Library’s hundreds of Star Wars-related books, ranging from picture books for children to adult paperback bestsellers, graphic novels, and ebooks. At craft stations, they will be able to make their own lightsabers, Star Wars Masks, get their faces painted like Star Wars characters, and dare to try the Wookiee Challenge. Participants will earn stars on their Intergalactic Passport towards a treat at the Max Rebo Snack Bar.

Guests are encouraged to arrive in costume to participate in a Star Wars costume contest and try their luck at a trivia contest, both with adult and child age divisions. Assorted Star Wars Reads giveaways from participating publishers will be available, including short story samplers, posters, and themed buttons.

Star Wars Reads Day is a free all-ages public program. For more information, contact the Adult Services Desk at LPLReference@lewistonmaine.gov or (207) 513-3135.
