Family Barn Dance

A French-Canadian family barn dance featuring fun & easy contra and square dances for all ages will take place on Friday, August 9th from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the Library’s air-conditioned Callahan Hall. The dances will be taught by Maine Franco dance leader Cindy Larock, with jigs-&-reels music provided by a locally-grown, multi-generational folk orchestra. Co-sponsored by LPL and the Maine Folque Co-op in collaboration with Healthy Androscoggin. Admission: $2 adults, $1 for youth (up to age 22). For more information: 782-0386.

An evening of dance fun for the whole family kicks off from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the Library’s air-conditioned Callahan Hall with a family barn dance featuring fun & easy contra and square dances for all ages taught by dance leader Cindy Larock, with live music provided by a locally-grown, multi-generational folk orchestra. New England Contra Dance!

Join us on Friday, August 9 at 8 p.m. in the Library’s air-conditioned Callahan Hall for an evening of New England contra and couple dancing. (All dances will be taught and no experience is necessary.) The music will be provided by the band Tidal Wave (Raz de Maree) from Quebec. Admission costs are $8 for adults and $5 for students (up to age 22).

Prior to this event (from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.) a French-Canadian family barn dance featuring fun & easy contra and square dances for all ages will be held. Join us on Friday, July 12th at 8 p.m. in the Library’s air-conditioned Callahan Hall for an evening of New England contra and couple dancing. (All dances will be taught and no experience is necessary.) The music will include fiddler Frank Ferrel and pianist Doug Protsik, joined by caller Maggie Robinson. Admission costs are $5 for adults and $2 for students (up to age 22).

Prior to this event (from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.) a family barn dance for all ages will be held featuring fun and easy contra and square dances. The barn dance will feature dance teacher/leader Cindy Larock and a locally-grown, multi-generational folk orchestra. Admission to the family barn dance is $2 for adults and $1 for children and students.

Teen Summer Reading Game 2013!

Beginning on June 23rd, Lewiston Public Library will be offering teenagers (ages 13-18) a weekly chance to win great prizes — simply by reading three or more hours per week. The library wants to encourage teenagers to keep up with their reading during the long summer months so they will not lose academic ground during the break.

Participants may read any type of reading material and any genre they want. As long as they meet their reading goal for the week, they will be eligible to choose from a weekly prize or a raffle ticket for a larger prize. The raffle drawing will be held at the beginning of August, and prizes include Dr. Dre Beats headphones, soccer balls, an art kit, Flagship Cinemas and Bull Moose Music gift cards, and an iPod shuffle.

Teens may signup as early as June 17^th, and the first week to read begins on June 23^th.

Beyond Fingerpaint – Making Bird Nests

The process and experience are the goals of this art program rather than a finished product. Parents are encouraged to get involved and it is recommended that play-clothes are worn, though some smocks may be provided.

This month we’re creating some very unique mixed media bird nests, be prepared to get bird brained!
