Children’s Programs

LPL Kids has many different programs for children of all ages and their families to enjoy! To see what is happening this month check out our Events Calendar.

Regular Storytimesemily book

Babytime – Babytime is a fun way to introduce very young children to the library, books, and reading. Babytime features short stories, action rhymes, and songs and is for children from birth to age 2 1/2. Thursdays 10:30-11.

Storytime – Storytime continues from where Babytime breaks off in introducing children to books and reading! Storytime is a fun program featuring stories, rhymes, and a craft and is for children aged 2 1/2 to 5. Tuesdays 10:30-11:30.

After School and Weekend Programs 

The library features a variety of after school programming for children of all ages! Program datesValentine and times may vary so please check the calendar to be sure the event you are looking for is running. Some events may
have age requirements or limited space, please call the library if you have any questions.

PoetryIn Be-Tween – In Be-Tween, silly name, fun things to do! A program for kids aged 10 and up who aren’t quite ready for the Teen Room, but are still looking for awesome things to do. From Candy Sushi to Duct Tape to Tech, we’ve got it all… if you’re over 10! Second Wednesday of every month from 4:00-5:00.

PAWS To Read – Read to a … dog?? Yes! Research has shown that when children read aloud to dogs their skills & confidence increase. The dog is an uncritical listener as the children explain the story and work through their vocabulary and comprehension. Space is very limited, so if you would like to reserve a spot, please call the Children’s Dept.

Chess Instruction – Join chess expert Cheri-Ann Parris and learn how to win at chess! Cheri-Ann offers basic instruction to advanced techniques for children of all ages.artvan2

ArtVan – Art Van is a mobile art program that brings the arts to children. Jamie Silvestri, Program Manager, is an artist with 18 years of experience. She provides hands-on creative opportunities for self-expression, personal growth, and fun.

Cooking Club – Lots to Gardens presents a series of cooking events including games, simple nutritional instruction, & preparation of an easy snack. Participants will need to sign up at the Children’s Desk. Class size is limited to 8 and this is a very popular program, so call right away!

Artsy-Fartsy Storytime – Join us as we learn about a famous artist or a nifty art concept through stories and art exploration.

Smarty-Pants Storytime – Learn about math and science skills through stories and a game or activity.Pollock

Beyond Finger-paint – Ages 1-5 – The goal of Beyond Finger-paint is the process and experience of creativity and expression rather than the creation of a finished product. Parents are encouraged to join in and we recommend play-clothes be worn, though some smocks may be provided.
