The 2017-2018 season of the Great Falls Forum concludes on Thursday, May 24th, featuring Andrew Bossie, Executive Director of Friends of Katahdin Woods & Waters with a talk on the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument.

The program will take place from 12 noon to 1 PM in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.

Andrew Bossie has served as the Executive Director of Friends of Katahdin Woods & Waters since January 2018. While attending college at the University of Southern Maine, he became involved as an activist with various nonprofits, and upon graduation, served as the executive director of the Maine AIDS Alliance for four years before becoming the executive director of Maine Citizens for Clean Elections. Andrew developed a love for hiking and mountain-climbing during his years working in Augusta; he has now climbed 33 of the 48 peaks that are over 4,000 feet in the White Mountains.

In his role with Friends of Katahdin Woods & Waters, Andrew is working to fundraise in support of the new monument. He also oversees the 400+ membership’s efforts to map the Monument and create informational materials.

Maine’s new National Monument, Katahdin Woods and Waters, was created in 2016 after years of determination, public debate, and community collaboration. Donated by Burt’s Bees entrepreneur Roxanne Quimby, Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument permanently conserves a portion of Maine’s iconic forests, safeguarding over 30 miles of pristine rivers and streams, and protecting prime habitat for beloved and rare wildlife. KWWNM offers spectacular views of Katahdin, adventurous recreational experiences, extensive historic and cultural resources, and economic promise for northern Maine.

In his Great Falls Forum presentation, Andrew will talk about the creation of Maine’s newest public lands, the opportunities to explore and enjoy this park now, and the future for this new unit of the National Park Service.

The Great Falls Forum is a monthly, brown-bag speaker series featuring statewide and regional leaders in public policy, business, academia and the arts.
