Sunday Author Series Coming This Fall to LPL

Just announced! LPL’s Sunday Author Series begins on on Oct. 18th and will run for four weeks, through Nov. 8th. The Series is being co-sponsored with the Friends of LPL and all of the free, public programs will take place at 1:00 p.m. in LPL’s Callahan Hall.

Opening the Series on Sun., Oct. 18th will be Nuruddin Farah, talking about his twelfth and latest novel, Hiding in Plain Sight. Farah, a Somali expatriate who has been a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature for the last several years, currently lives in Cape Town, South Africa, and Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, where he is Distinguished Professor of Literature at Bard College.

*CANCELLED* On Oct. 25th the Series will feature former Congressman Barney Frank discussing his new autobiography, Frank: A Life in Politics from the Great Society to Same-Sex Marriage. The work is the story of an extraordinary political life, an original argument for how to rebuild trust in government, and a guide to how political change really happens—composed by a master of the art.

Local historian and Bates Professor Emeritus Douglas Hodgkin will be speaking on Nov. 1st about his recently published local history, Lewiston Politics in the Gilded Age: 1863–1900. The book takes a look at Lewiston city government during a boomtown period that saw the construction of most of our mill buildings.

The Sunday Author Series will conclude on Nov. 8th with the bestselling memoirist, Kate Braestrup talking about her latest publication, Anchor & Flares: a Memoir of Motherhood, Hope & Service. Braestrup is a chaplain with the Maine Warden Service whose writing is noted for her deeply moving and sweetly humorous stories of faith, hope, and family.

The Friends of LPL will also be holding their annual business meeting on Nov. 8 at 12:30 p.m., prior to the Braestrup talk.

Each of these talks will begin at 1:00 p.m. Books will be available for sale at each program and the authors will be ending each with a book signing session.
