LPL Newsletter 8/12/2024

What’s New?
  • Caterpillars in the Library. We are happy to announce that the painted lady caterpillars have arrived and are in their enclosure at the information desk in the Children’s Department keeping us company! Feel free to visit them anytime during our regular hours. We also have envelopes of Maine wildflower seeds available so you can plant your own butterfly garden.
  • Summer Reading Ends Saturday. Summer Reading ends on August 17th! Don’t forget to turn in your bookmarks!
  • Interlibrary Loan Temporarily Suspended. Due to an issue with our contracted book delivery service, the Maine State Library has made the decision to turn off materials requesting between libraries.

This Week @ LPL
  • Mr. Drew and His Animals Too, Wednesday, August 14th at 5:30pm. This animal performance is free, open to the public, and no registration is required.
  • Teen Button Making, Thursday, August 15th at 4pm. Our self-serve button making station is available for all teens, grab a backing, a cool design, and bring it all together to make something great!
  • Little Keepsakes Butterfly Pendants, Friday, August 16th at 10am. Caregivers will be able to create a keepsake clay butterfly pendant with their young children using their fingerprints. The activity is designed for caregivers with children between the ages of birth-6yrs.
  • Chewonki’s Bugmobile, Saturday, August 17th at 11am. Using models, costumes, and live specimens, they will explain the unique characteristics of four major groups of arthropods. Their live “bug” species will introduce you to some of the fascinating adaptations essential for survival, such as mimicry, camouflage, armor, and the use of venom.

Next Week @ LPL
  • Butterfly Storytime, Friday, August 23rd at 10am. Enjoy an interactive butterfly storytime learning about butterflies and their life cycle. Stop by for some fun with books, songs, and body movement while building early literacy skills. After the storytime, each child can decorate and create their own flapping butterfly.
