Great Falls Forum: the Facts of the Tragedy
The 2024-2025 season of the Great Falls Forum continues Thursday, February 20th, featuring Former Chief Justice Daniel Wathen with a talk entitled “The Facts of the Tragedy.” This free, public program will take place from 12 noon to 1 PM in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.
Former Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, Wathen served as a member of Maine’s judiciary for more than twenty-five years. Wathen was first appointed to the Maine Superior Court by Governor Longley (I) in 1977 and served for four years before his appointment to Maine’s highest court by Governor Brennan (D) in 1981. Wathen was elevated to Chief Justice by Governor McKernan (R) in 1992 and served in that role until his retirement in 2001. Since 1990, Wathen has served as the Court Master to oversee the mental health consent decree.
Former Chief Justice Wathen, in conversation with Sun Journal politics and history reporter Steve Collins, will discuss the events of October 25th, 2023 and the findings of the commission which investigated the response to the tragedy.

This program is a bring-your-own, brown-bag lunch event. Coffee, tea and bottled water will be available on site at the library.
