BUTTERFLIES AT THE LEWISTON PUBLIC LIBRARY

Graphic for the Butterflies in the Library Program.

Join us this August as we celebrate butterflies in the
Lewiston Public Library’s Children’s Department!

Throughout the month of August, there will be a series of butterfly-themed programs in the Lewiston Public Library’s Children’s Department.

The Children’s Department will be offering free programs and passive activities for all ages centered around butterflies and their life cycle.

There will be live Painted Lady caterpillars in the Children’s Department that patrons can watch develop through metamorphosis.

Regular social media posts will feature the caterpillars’ progression through their release as mature butterflies.

When you stop in to visit the Painted Ladies take home some free wildflower seeds to grow your own garden for pollinators.

All programs count towards Summer Reading participation. There is no registration required for the programs and all materials will be provided.

For the Summer Reading program, all ages will be using a bookmark to track reading and activities for free books and prizes. Pick up a bookmark at the library, complete the activities listed, and turn it in at the library to be entered into our end-of-summer prize drawings. Children and Teens will also get to choose a free book to keep for every reading bookmark completed.

Admission is free to all Summer Reading events and no library card is required to participate in the reading programs. Prizes must be picked up in person at the library.

The Lewiston Public Library is located downtown at 200 Lisbon Street at the corner of Pine Street. More information on the 2024 Summer Reading program is available by contacting the Lewiston Public Library at 207-513-3135 or LPLReference@lewistonmaine.gov.
