Maine State Representative John L. Martin of Eagle Lake will be our featured speaker for the January Great Falls Forum on Thurs., Jan. 19 at 12 noon in LPL’s Callahan Hall. His talk for the program is entitled “Stories From the State House.

Rep. Martin was first elected to the Legislature in 1964 and has represented his Aroostook County district for most of the last 52 years, serving in both the State House and Senate. From 1975 until 1994 Martin served as the Speaker of the House. He also is a member of the adjunct faculty at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, teaching courses in political science and environmental science.

Aside from the fact that Rep. Martin has been in the middle of Maine politics for the last half century, he also is knowledgeable about Maine’s long history. During his Forum talk he is expected to touch on pivotal points in Maine’s history, changes that he has observed over the years, and anecdotes from the numerous statewide campaigns that he has worked on.

The Great Falls Forum is a monthly, brown-bag speaker series featuring statewide and regional leaders in public policy, business, academia and the arts. The programs are free, open to all and no reservations are required. Coffee, tea and bottled water are provided for a donation at the event. The Forum is a co-sponsorship of the Sun Journal, Bates College and LPL.
