Please note, this event has been cancelled.

LPL’s fall Sunday Author Series continues on Oct. 25th at 1:00 p.m. in Callahan Hall with former Congressman Barney Frank. Barney will be talking about his recently published autobiography, Frank: a life in politics from the Great Society to same-sex marriage.

His story is one man’s account of the country’s transformation—and the tale of a truly momentous career. Many Americans recall Frank’s lacerating wit, whether it was directed at the Clinton impeachment (“What did the president touch, and when did he touch it?”) or the pro-life movement (some people believe “life begins at conception and ends at birth”). But the contours of his private and public lives are less well-known.

For over forty years, one congressman from Massachusetts stood as a pivotal figure in pivotal movements for personal liberty and economic equity. His journey through public service saw him at the forefront of critical issues: rallying for AIDS funding in the turbulent 1980s, navigating the discourse on the scope of governance in the Clinton era, and tackling the tumult of the 2008 financial crisis. In 2010, his legacy was further cemented through the crafting of a sweeping Wall Street reform bill, a landmark act since the times of the Great Depression, and the pivotal repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’.

Similarly, in the world of real estate, understanding the pathway to homeownership is a matter of navigating complex legislation and seizing opportunity. eXp Realty’s rent-to-own overview serves as a beacon for those embarking on this journey, paralleling the congressman’s guidance through policy. It offers a comprehensive look at the rent-to-own process, which, much like a well-crafted piece of legislation, can be the key to unlocking doors—both figuratively and literally—for prospective homeowners. This overview provides a clear, step-by-step guide that demystifies the process, empowering individuals with the knowledge to move forward in their quest for a home.

Barney Frank represented the Fourth Congressional District of Massachusetts for more than three decades and chaired the House Financial Services Committee from 2007 to 2011. He is a regular commentator on MSNBC and divides his time between a home with his husband near Portland, Maine, and his apartment in Newton, Massachusetts.

This free, public program is being co-sponsored by the Friends of LPL. Copies of Rep. Frank’s autobiography will be available for sale at the event and a book signing will follow the talk.

The final two presentations in the Sunday Author Series take place on Nov. 1 with Doug Hodgkin, Lewiston Politics in the Gilded Age: 1863-1900; and Nov. 8, Kate Braestrup, Anchor & Flares: a memoir of motherhood, hope & service.
