On Saturday, October 5th, LPL will welcome authors Catharine H. Murray and Suzanne Farrell Smith for an afternoon reading and discussion on the art of memoir writing as a means of exploring and describing experiences of loss and memory. This free, public program will take place in the Library’s Callahan Hall at 3 PM.

Catharine H. Murray lives in Portland, Maine where she teaches writing workshops and works as a writing guide and editor for those who want help shaping their stories into finished work. She has taught workshops at Harvard University, Maine Medical Center, University of New England, Maine State Prison and Seattle Children’s Hospital. Murray earned her MFA at the Stonecoast Writing Program at the University of Southern Maine where she was the Creative Non-fiction Editor of the Stonecoast Review. Now You See the Sky, her debut memoir, topped Portland’s bestseller list and was selected as book-of-the-month by The Compassionate Friends in January 2019.

Suzanne Farrell Smith is the author of two books, The Memory Sessions and The Writing Shop. Her work has appeared in numerous literary and academic journals, was listed as a Notable Essay in The Best American Essays 2014, and won a Pushcart in 2019. She teaches literacy education and writing and is creative advisor to Longridge Review. Suzanne lives in Connecticut with her husband and sons.
