The culture of Moxie and its origins have much in common with craft brewing and local brewers like Baxter Brewing Co. Lewiston Public Library is excited to continue our Pages & Pints series with Maine writer Jim Baumer, who will talk about Moxie, books, and beer in the Library’s Callahan Hall on December 5th at 6:00 PM.

The evening will then continue with a tour of Baxter Brewing Co. followed by a reception and beer tasting, including a small batch Moxie beer! Forage Market will be providing cheese pairings with the Baxter brews.

Jim Baumer is an award-winning, Maine-based writer, whose books include Moxie: Maine in a Bottle (published by Down East Books, 2012), and When Towns Had Teams (RiverVision Press, 2005). Both have become quintessential reads, providing snapshots of Maine and its unique culture. He has recently released a book of essays, The Perfect Number: Essays & Stories Vol. 1. Baumer grew up in Lisbon Falls, where many of the essays and stories in this new collection are rooted.

In addition to his books, Baumer is also a small press publisher, founding RiverVision Press, “Maine’s Unique Small Press,” in 2004. Additionally, he is a freelance writer and has written for the Lewiston Sun-Journal, the Bangor Daily News, the Boston Globe, and the Portland Phoenix. Further information on Baumer’s books and his writing, including articles for various newspapers and magazines, can be found at his website, jimbaumer.com.

Copies of his books will be available for purchase and signing at the Library on the night of the event. No registration is required.
