On Wednesday, November 14th, Maine author Scott Douglas will discuss his latest book, Running Is My Therapy: Relieve Stress and Anxiety, Fight Depression, Ditch Bad Habits, and Live Happier, in LPL’s Callahan Hall.

This author talk is being presented by the Friends of LPL and is part of their annual meeting program.  The talk is open to the public and Friends membership is not required to attend. The Friends business meeting will take place at 5:30 PM and the author talk will begin at 6:00 PM. Books will be available for sale and signing at the event.

With a mix of distilled research, runners’ stories, expert insight, and autobiographical anecdote, Running Is My Therapy describes how and why millions of people use running to help manage their mental health. The book explains how running can be either an effective stand-alone treatment for many cases of depression and anxiety, or how running can be combined with other forms of treatment for even greater benefit. Scott hopes that after reading Running Is My Therapy, readers will understand how running benefits the brain as much as it does the body.

Scott Douglas has run more than 110,000 miles since starting in 1979. He is a contributing editor for Runner’s World and author or co-author of several books. In addition to Running Is My Therapy, his titles include Advanced Marathoning, The Little Red Book of Running, and Meb for Mortals, which was written with Boston and New York City Marathon champion Meb Keflezighi. Scott and his wife, photographer Stacey Cramp, live in South Portland.

Copies of Running Is My Therapy and other books by Scott Douglas will be available for sale at the event and a signing will follow the talk. For more information, contact the LPL Adult & Teen Services desk at 513-3135 or LPLReference@Gmail.com.
