Highlights:

  • National Foreign Language Week: March 7th through 13th, celebrate National Foreign Language Week at LPL with Mango Languages! The best part? We’ve got prizes! Keep an eye on our social media where we’ll be running contests and giving away swag. There are lots of ways to participate! We’re happy to help connect you with our language learning programs like Mango and Pronunciator – just contact us at 207.513.3135 or lplreference@lewistonmaine.gov. Boa sorte!
  • Kids’ Graphic Novel Book Box: In conjunction with the National Endowment for the Humanities, we are excited to be able to offer LPL Kids’ book boxes to celebrate Will Eisner Week. These boxes are FREE for families in the Lewiston/Auburn area and include an Eisner-award winning graphic novel, printables, make-your-own-comic supplies, and more! These boxes are for kids ages 7-12, and will be sent to you in the mail. Supplies are limited, so be sure to sign up ASAP if you wish to receive one. Email the Children’s Department at LPLKids@LewistonMaine.gov or call (207) 513-3133 to get your box!
  • Relation-Ship-It Teen Book Group: Relation-Ship-It is a book group for teens where we discuss LGBTQ+ relationships through Young Adult Fiction. Relation-Ship-It focuses on a new book each month with two virtual meetings per month on Zoom. Teens can sign up to join for all three books or just the titles they are interested in. The group is open to any interested teen and new members can join at any time, though there will be a sign-up deadline for each book. New copies of each book will be provided free of charge to participating teens! Our first meetings will be on April 7th & 21st at 3pm to discuss the book Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender. Register by March 12th to get your book for the April discussion at bit.ly/pplbooks
  • Great Falls Forum with Rose Barboza and Genius Black: The 2020-2021 season of the Great Falls Forum continues on Thursday, March 18, featuring Rose Barboza and Genius Black, Co-Directors of Black Owned Maine and Co-Owners of Black Owned Maine Media, on the topic “A Rationale to Support Black Business in Maine.” The program will take place from 12 noon to 1 PM virtually via Zoom and streamed to the Lewiston Public Library Facebook page. Register here to attend!
  • Book Chat: Join LPL staff for a conversation about what we’re reading, watching, and listening to on Facebook Live. In our last book chat, we highlighted some of the new titles arriving at the library in March. You can watch last week’s recorded broadcast and follow along with the list of titles we mentioned.
  • Take & Make Activity Kits: New kits are here! The theme for March is RAINBOWS! LPL Kids is excited to offer Take & Make kits designed for preschool ages, with kits that include activities for young children who are working on fine motor skills, scissor skills, ABC’s, 123’s, shapes, colors, and more! You can pick up a kit when you schedule a browsing appointment in the Children’s Department or via LPL To Go. No library card required. Please call the Children’s Department at (207) 513-3133 or email us at LPLKIDS@lewistonmaine.gov to get your kit!

LPL To Go is now appointment free! We have made a slight change to process and appointments are no longer required for hold pick-up. Simply call the Lending desk at (207) 513-3134 when you arrive and staff will check out your items and meet you at the door.
