Highlights:
- Read Your Mind – Mental Health in Teen Books: Read Your Mind is a monthly, virtual series focusing on teen mental health & wellness. Featuring YA authors and community health experts, we hope to explore complex and common health concerns through the vehicle of Teen books. In April we will host authors Lisa Allen-Agostini & I.W. Gregorio to discuss how racism & differing cultural perceptions of mental health affect teens and young adults. Our community partner for this event is Gateway Community Services and the authors will be interviewed by local Lewiston youth ZamZam Elmoge of the GenZ Project. The program will take place on Wednesday, April 28th at 12 noon virtually via Zoom and streamed to the Lewiston Public Library Facebook page. Register here to attend!
- National Poetry Month w/ Poetry Express: Mark your calendars for a special joint Maine State Library & Maine Humanities National Poetry Month event to kick off the 2021 Poetry Express season! The event will take place on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 6 pm via Zoom and streaming on Facebook Live on the Maine State Library, Maine Humanities Council, and Lewiston Public Library Facebook pages. Featuring a collective of brilliant poets including Maine Humanities Council staff, partners, facilitators, speakers & friends.
- The Lewiston Read! You see it everywhere you go. Your friends can’t stop talking about it, and even your teacher is reading it. You’ve got to get your hands on this book! This May, join our city-wide initiative – THE LEWISTON READ! Let’s come together through reading, where everyone in the community reads the same book—you, your teacher, local firefighters, your friends, the Mayor, your dentist —everyone! This year’s book choice is Dragons in a Bag by Zetta Elliott. Be on the lookout for book trivia, special Take & Make kits, and photo challenges, coming soon!
- Art Walk Window Display from Purple Bean Bindery: The Library has once again partnered with LA Arts to bring a new form of Art Walk to the community. This year, we are featuring art work in our Lisbon St windows which are located near the entrance to the building. From April 15th – June 15th, local artist Anna Low will have a display of her artist books available for viewing. These beautiful and unique creations can be seen from the street anytime or up close and personal during one of our browsing blocks throughout the week. Each one is different and tells its own story in a distinctive format.
