Highlights:

  • The Lewiston Read: It’s the final week of The Lewiston Read! This May, join our city-wide initiative – THE LEWISTON READ! Let’s come together through reading, where everyone in the community reads the same book—you, your teacher, local firefighters, your friends, the Mayor, your dentist —everyone! This year’s book choice is Dragons in a Bag by Zetta Elliott. Besides reading the book, you can participate in all kinds of ways! For updates, check our website or Facebook page. Questions? Please call the Children’s Department at 513-3133 or email LPLKIDS@lewistonmaine.gov
  • Virtual Babytime & Storytime! Join Ms. Jackie for our VIRTUAL weekly combo of Babytime & Preschool Storytime: a fun, interactive activity for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers that helps introduce children to the world of books, learning, and the library. Early literacy concepts such as print awareness and phonics will be introduced to parents and children as we enjoy stories, songs, fingerplays, and more. Siblings are always welcome. This weekly program will take place on Tuesdays at 10:30am via Zoom – to register, please contact the Children’s Department at 207-513-3133 or lplkids@lewistonmaine.gov.

  • May Take & Make Kits: This Month’s Take & Make Kit is in full bloom with May flowers! Including a leaf maze, leaf counting printable, parts of a plant coloring sheet, tissue paper flowers craft activity, and fun butterfly and bug shapes! Our Take & Make kits are designed especially for kids ages 3-6 who are working on fine motor skills, scissor skills, ABC’s, 123’s, shapes, colors, and more! You can pick up a kit when you schedule a browsing appointment in the Children’s Department or via LPL To Go. No library card required.  Please call the Children’s Department at 207-513-3133 or email us at LPLKIDS@lewistonmaine.gov to get your kit!

  • Art Walk Window Display from Purple Bean Bindery: The Library has once again partnered with LA Arts to bring a new form of Art Walk to the community. This year, we are featuring art work in our Lisbon St windows which are located near the entrance to the building. From April 15th – June 15th, local artist Anna Low will have a display of her artist books available for viewing. These beautiful and unique creations can be seen from the street anytime or up close and personal during one of our browsing blocks throughout the week. Each one is different and tells its own story in a distinctive format.
  • The Children’s Department now has Park Passes! State Park Passes have a 24-hour checkout time and provide a free pass for one carload into any Maine State Park. Wildlife Park Passes provide a one-time discounted entry to the park and must be reserved in advance.
