LPL Newsletter 6/1/2021


Update your library card or register for the first time.

Highlights:

  • LPL is expanding access to the building Patrons can enter the library during open blocks for in-library activities such as browsing, picking up holds, and using computers.The open blocks are:
    • Monday-Thursday: 10am–1pm, 3–4pm, and 5:30–6:30pm
    • Friday: 10am–1pm and 3–4pm
    • Summer Saturdays: 10am–2pm

    The building will be cleared at the end of each block, so patrons should plan accordingly. LPL To Go door pickup will still be offered throughout the day.

  • Children’s Room No Longer Requires Appointments! The Children’s Department is now open daily during the same time slots as the rest of the building. Unvaccinated patrons ages five and up are still required to wear a mask. We have masks at the front entrance and at the Children’s Department desk for anyone who needs one.   • Book Chat: Local Authors with Quiet City Books! Join LPL staff for a conversation about what we’re reading, watching, and listening to on Facebook Live. Make suggestions, share your thoughts, find resources, and get personalized recommendations from our librarians! Our next book chat is coming up on Tuesday, June 1st at 1pm. Join us to hear about some local authors with special guest Courtney from Quiet City Books!
  • Mill Town: A Community Conversation with Kerri Arsenault Book critic, editor, and author Kerri Arsenault will speak at an event hosted by the Lewiston Public Library on Tuesday, June 8th to discuss her bestselling and widely acclaimed nonfiction book, Mill Town: Reckoning with What Remains. This free, public program will take place from 12 – 1 PM virtually via Zoom. Register here to attend!
  • All You Can Game: Virtual Teen Gaming NightsAre you looking for a gaming group? You’re in luck – it’s all fun and games at the Teen Library this summer! In partnership with Portland Public Library, LPL Teen presents All You Can Game, an ongoing, online game night. Try a little of everything as we test out a sampling of different games throughout the summer, including Among Us, Jackbox Games, and more. Hop on Discord for a new multiplayer game every other Wednesday at 4:30pm, June through August. Join us for our first session on Wednesday, June 9th to play Among Us! Email lplreference@lewistonmaine.gov, send us a message on our @lplonline Instagram, or get in touch with Teen Library staff on our Discord server to reserve your seat!
  • Art Walk Window Display from Purple Bean Bindery: The Library has once again partnered with LA Arts to bring a new form of Art Walk to the community. This year, we are featuring art work in our Lisbon St windows which are located near the entrance to the building. From April 15th – June 15th, local artist Anna Low will have a display of her artist books available for viewing. These beautiful and unique creations can be seen from the street anytime or up close and personal during one of our browsing blocks throughout the week. Each one is different and tells its own story in a distinctive format.
  • The Children’s Department now has Park Passes! State Park Passes have a 24-hour checkout time and provide a free pass for one carload into any Maine State Park. Wildlife Park Passes provide a one-time discounted entry to the park and must be reserved in advance. Browsing is Back! The Library is expanding its hours throughout the month of June.

LPL To Go is still available! Although we are now open for browsing at certain times of day, LPL To Go is still available for hold pick-up. Simply call the Lending desk at (207) 513-3134 when you arrive and staff will check out your items and meet you at the Pine Street door.
