Highlights:

  • 2021 Summer Reading at LPL: This year’s theme is “Tails and Tales,” and the program will run from June 13-August 7, with reading programs for children, teens, and adults. Check out our website for more information and calendars. This year, children, teen, and adults are using a PASSPORT system to track reading and activities for prizes. Pick up a passport (Kids on the 3rd floor, Teen on the 2nd floor, Adult on the 1st floor — or print your own from our website using the links above), complete any 4 activities, and turn it in to be entered into prize drawings! Children and Teens also get a to choose a free book for every passport completed. All ages can complete as many passports they want during the eight weeks of summer reading. Questions?   • Butterfly Craft with Ms. Penny! LIVE in Kennedy Park: Join us in Kennedy Park on June 28 @ 10:30 am for a fun hands-on butterfly activity. Come and make a butterfly craft with Ms. Penny right in Kennedy Park. All supplies provided & no reservations required–just show up at the Kennedy Park gazebo! Questions?   • Virtual Babytime & Storytime: Babytime & Storytime are animal-themed for Summer Reading! Join Ms. Jackie on Tuesday, June 29 at 10:30am as she reads books about INSECTS, our theme for this week! Ms. Jackie will be reading via our VIRTUAL weekly combo of Babytime & Preschool Storytime: a fun, interactive activity for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers that helps introduce children to the world of books, learning, and the library. This weekly program takes place via Zoom – to register, please call the Children’s Department at 207-513-3133 or email lplkids@lewistonmaine.gov.
  • World Mythology Virtual Trivia Night: On Wednesday, June 30 at 6pm, test your knowledge of myths and tall tales from around the world against local participants for the chance to claim the prize for yourself! We will be using Kahoot to play live so an internet enabled device such as a smartphone or iPad is required to participate. The moderator will walk players through the set-up of the game. Register before June 25 and receive a bonus entry into the Adult Summer Reading prize raffles. The winner will receive a gift card to Quiet City Books and a bookish coffee mug.
  • Art Walk Window Display from Lewiston High School’s Art Department: The Library has once again partnered with LA Arts to bring a new form of Art Walk to the community. From a COVID school year, Lewiston High School’s Art Department presents “I Wish My Teacher Knew,” a collection of digitally created and shared art work, stories, poems, and collages created by our local students. The prompt gave students a guiding point for their work which will be displayed at the library until August 15, visible through the windows and accessible for viewing inside.

LPL is expanding access to the building Patrons can enter the library during open blocks for in-library activities such as browsing, picking up holds, and using computers.The open blocks are:

  • Monday-Thursday: 10am–1pm and 3pm – 7pm
  • Fridays: 10am–1pm and 3–5pm
  • Summer Saturdays: 10am–2pm

The building will be cleared at the end of each block, so patrons should plan accordingly. LPL To Go door pickup will still be offered throughout the day.


Children’s Room No Longer Requires Appointments! The Children’s Department is now open daily during the same time slots as the rest of the building. Unvaccinated patrons ages five and up are still required to wear a mask. We have masks at the front entrance and at the Children’s Department desk for anyone who needs one. LPL To Go is still available! Although we are now open for browsing at certain times of day, LPL To Go is still available for hold pick-up. Simply call the Lending desk at (207) 513-3134 when you arrive and staff will check out your items and meet you at the Pine Street door.
