Maine is home to a variety of nocturnal animals, many of which you could even spot right here in Lewiston! But have you ever stopped to wonder how these wild animals continue their hard work even as we sleep? Learn about creatures of the night from the Center for Wildlife, a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center located in Cape Neddick, ME. Using LIVE animals, the Center for Wildlife will answer many of our questions about how these animals survive in the nighttime. Gather your friends and family around to get up close with their live non-releasable animal ambassadors and their fascinating nocturnal adaptations.Register here for the Zoom information to be sent to your email address or visit our Facebook page to watch. For more information, please contact the Reference Desk at 207-513-3135 or at LPLReference@LewistonMaine.gov

LPL is expanding access to the building

  • Monday-Thursday: 10am–1pm and 3pm – 7pm
  • Fridays: 10am–1pm and 3–5pm
  • Summer Saturdays: 10am–2pm

The building will be cleared at the end of each block, so patrons should plan accordingly. LPL To Go door pickup will still be offered throughout the day.

Children’s Room No Longer Requires Appointments!

The Children’s Department is now open daily during the same time slots as the rest of the building. Unvaccinated patrons ages five and up are still required to wear a mask. We have masks at the front entrance and at the Children’s Department desk for anyone who needs one. For more information call the Children’s Department at (207) 513-3133 or email LPLKids@lewistonmaine.gov.

Maine Reciprocal Borrowing is Back!

Following the pilot edition in 2019 which was cut short by the pandemic, the Maine Reciprocal Borrowing Program (MRBP) has returned! This program will enable Lewiston patrons to check out items at nearly 40 libraries across Maine including Lisbon, Topsham, and even the State Library, potentially with the other participants joining soon. Starting July 1, 2021 this system allows members to use Lewiston Library cards at any MRBP locations on a walk-in basis instead of ordering items and waiting for an interlibrary loan delivery. Patrons are required to have their physical library cards to checkout and returns can be made either at the borrowing or home library. There are different types of libraries participating including public, university, health and other specializations.  For more information, please contact the Lending Department at lplcirc@lewistonmaine.gov or 513-3134 or visit our website.

LPL To Go is still available!

Although we are now open for browsing at certain times of day, LPL To Go is still available for hold pick-up. Simply call the Lending desk at (207) 513-3134 when you arrive and staff will check out your items and meet you at the Pine Street door. For more information head to the LPL To Go page, email our librarians, or call the Lending Services desk at (207) 513-3134.
