Thank you to everyone that participated in our Summer Reading 2021: Tails and Tales! We had a great time with you via our virtual and live programs, take and make kits, passports and…prizes! Yes, we are still handing out prizes! You can still turn in passports until Friday, August 20th to enter the grand prize raffle drawings for all ages. Thank you for reading with us this summer and we look forward to more fun events this fall! Questions? Please call 207-513-3135 or email us at lplreference@lewistonmaine.gov

  • Beautiful Blackbird Children’s Book Festival:

The Beautiful Blackbird Children’s Book Festival is organized by Indigo Arts Alliance, a Black-led arts organization cultivating and celebrating a multiracial approach to the rich intersections of citizenship, community-building, and creativity. Like last year, most of the Festival will be virtual, enabling people from all over the world to take part and celebrate the voices, artistry, and impact of children’s literature created by and featuring Black people. You can visit the official Festival website to see activities and information on partner organizations, such as the Children’s Museum and Theater of Maine!

All through the month of August, Lewiston Public Library Children’s Department will be participating in the Festival by sharing posts from the Indigo Arts Alliance on our LPL Kids Facebook page, and Ms. Jackie will host a special Ashley Bryan virtual Babytime & Storytime on Zoom. Please be sure to stop in to the Children’s Room on the 3rd floor to see our Festival display! The Beautiful Blackbird Festival is presented in partnership with Indigo Arts Alliance, I’m Your Neighbor Books and Diverse BookFinder.

  • Summer Book Sale!

The Friends of the Library are proud to announce the return of the lobby book sale! For a limited time, books are 10 for $1 and AV items are 5 for $1. All VHS and cassette tapes are free. We have a wide variety of materials from which to choose so come visit us soon. Please note that due to a large volume of inventory, the Library is not accepting new donations at this time.

LPL is expanding access to the building

Patrons can enter the library during open blocks for in-library activities such as browsing, picking up holds, and using computers. The open blocks are:

  • Monday-Thursday: 10am–1pm and 3pm – 7pm
  • Fridays: 10am–1pm and 3–5pm
  • Summer Saturdays: 10am–2pm

The building will be cleared at the end of each block, so patrons should plan accordingly. LPL To Go door pickup will still be offered throughout the day.

Children’s Room No Longer Requires Appointments!

The Children’s Department is now open daily during the same time slots as the rest of the building. Unvaccinated patrons ages five and up are still required to wear a mask. We have masks at the front entrance and at the Children’s Department desk for anyone who needs one. For more information call the Children’s Department at (207) 513-3133 or email LPLKids@lewistonmaine.gov.

Maine Reciprocal Borrowing is Back!

Following the pilot edition in 2019 which was cut short by the pandemic, the Maine Reciprocal Borrowing Program (MRBP) has returned! This program will enable Lewiston patrons to check out items at nearly 40 libraries across Maine including Lisbon, Topsham, and even the State Library, potentially with the other participants joining soon. Starting July 1, 2021 this system allows members to use Lewiston Library cards at any MRBP locations on a walk-in basis instead of ordering items and waiting for an interlibrary loan delivery. Patrons are required to have their physical library cards to checkout and returns can be made either at the borrowing or home library. There are different types of libraries participating including public, university, health and other specializations.  For more information, please contact the Lending Department at lplcirc@lewistonmaine.gov or 513-3134 or visit our website.

LPL To Go is still available!

Although we are now open for browsing at certain times of day, LPL To Go is still available for hold pick-up. Simply call the Lending desk at (207) 513-3134 when you arrive and staff will check out your items and meet you at the Pine Street door. For more information head to the LPL To Go page, email our librarians, or call the Lending Services desk at (207) 513-3134.
