What’s New?
  • Masks are Required in the Library — Effective immediately, face coverings are required inside the Library for all people aged 5 and older when community transmission levels for Androscoggin County are classified by the U.S. CDC as Moderate, Substantial, or High.
  • Fall Candidates Forum, Thursday, September 30th @ 5:30pm — The LA Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Sun Journal and the Lewiston Public Library are co-hosting a free virtual event with candidates for City Council, School Committee and Mayor in Auburn and in Lewiston.
  • Virtual Homework Help, Monday through Thursday @ 2pm — Students in grades 7-12 can meet virtually with Bates tutors via Zoom from 2-6pm Monday-Thursday while school is in session. Library Chromebooks are available for use in the Teen Room for teens who do not have their own devices.

 

This Week at LPL
  • Game on, Grown ups, September 21st @ 4:30 pm — Stop by the library to play tabletop games with your friends and neighbors. Tabletop games will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own games. Winners of select games will earn a prize in the form of a $5 gift card to Dunkin’ Donuts! This program is for adults only; however, children and teens accompanied by an adult are welcome to participate. Registration is recommended.
  • ArtVan at Kennedy Park, Every Wednesday from 3:45pm to 5:15pm — ArtVan will be providing hands-on creative opportunities for self-expression, personal growth, and fun for ages 5-14. Children ages 5-8 will need to be accompanied by an adult for the entire program. No sign-up required. All materials provided. This program will be held outside in Kennedy Park in Lewiston.
  • Poetry Express with Jefferson Navicky, Tuesday, September 21st @ 6pm — Join the Maine Humanities Council and the Elder Abuse Institute of Maine and host poet Jefferson Navicky for a community poetry reading examining themes of hope, transitions, aging, change, growth, resilience, transformation, opportunity, reimagining the future, reciprocity, and reclaiming identity and the power of agency.

 

Next Week
  • D.I.Y. Pickles at the Library, September 30th @ 4pm — Are you a fan of pickles or dilly beans? Is your garden overflowing with vegetables? Join LPL and University of Maine Cooperative Extension for a hands-on food preservation workshop. Participants will learn the basics, such as preserving equipment, recommended recipes, and ingredients. Participants will start a batch of pickled vegetables, learn the steps towards fermentation, and be able to take home a jar of freshly-made pickles or dilly beans at the end of the program.

  • Teen Manga Battle, accepting submissions between October 1st and October 30th — Teen artists can submit one piece of manga art to join the contest. Our two categories are original art and fan art. After one week of voting on Instagram and Discord, we will pick two winners. The best artist in each category will receive a pack of manga-making supplies as a prize.
  • 2-Sentence Horror Story Contest, accepting submissions between October 1st and October 30th — Enter your 2-sentence horror story for a chance to win one of three gift card prizes. Anyone can submit one 2-sentence horror story to join the contest. Entries are accepted online or in person at the 2nd Floor Reference Desk.
  • Pumpkin Craft Palooza, Thursday, October 14th @ 4:30pm — Brighten your home this autumn with wine cork pumpkins, paper roll pumpkins, and pom pom pumpkins galore! All materials and instruction will be provided. Adults and Teens 13 & Up are welcome.
