LPL Newsletter 9/27/2021
What’s New?
- Celebrating Banned Books Week, September 26th through October 2nd — Books unite us. Sharing stories important to us means sharing a part of ourselves. Books reach across boundaries and build connections between readers. Censorship, on the other hand, divides us and creates barriers. You can find a collection of ebooks and audiobooks that have been challenged or banned on Cloud Library right now.
This Week at LPL
- Fall Candidates Forum, Thursday, September 30th @ 5:30pm — The LA Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Sun Journal and the Lewiston Public Library are co-hosting a free virtual event with candidates for City Council, School Committee and Mayor in Auburn and in Lewiston.
- Teen Manga Battle, accepting submissions starting this Friday — Teen artists can submit one piece of manga art to join the contest. Our two categories are original art and fan art. After one week of voting on Instagram and Discord, we will pick two winners. The best artist in each category will receive a pack of manga-making supplies as a prize.
- 2-Sentence Horror Story Contest, accepting submissions starting this Friday — Enter your 2-sentence horror story for a chance to win one of three gift card prizes. Anyone can submit one 2-sentence horror story to join the contest. Entries are accepted online or in person at the 2nd Floor Reference Desk.
- D.I.Y. Pickles at the Library, September 30th @ 4pm — Are you a fan of pickles or dilly beans? Is your garden overflowing with vegetables? Join LPL and University of Maine Cooperative Extension for a hands-on food preservation workshop. Participants will learn the basics, such as preserving equipment, recommended recipes, and ingredients. Participants will start a batch of pickled vegetables, learn the steps towards fermentation, and be able to take home a jar of freshly-made pickles or dilly beans at the end of the program. This program is full, but you can still get on the wait list.
