What’s New?
  • The Library will be closed on Monday, October 11th, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. We will reopen on Tuesday at 10am.
  • Our book sale continues into the Fall! The Friends of the Library book sale continues! Books are 10 for $1 and DVDs/CDs are 5 for $1. All VHS and cassette tapes are free. We have a wide variety of materials from which to choose, updated weekly!

 

This Week at LPL
  • Pumpkins in the Park, Friday, October 8th @ 10am — Join Lewiston Recreation and Lewiston Public Library in Kennedy Park for a morning of fall fun! Decorate a pumpkin to take home, earn prizes by playing our harvest games, and dive elbow-deep into some pumpkins! You can reserve your free pumpkin by registering online or calling Lewiston Recreation at (207) 513-3005.
  • The Marvelous Meep Island Adventure, Saturday, October 9th @ 11am — The University of Southern Maine is having a free theatre event for audiences of all ages, presented outside in Kennedy Park in partnership with Lewiston Public Library. Bring a blanket, chairs, a picnic; tell your friends and join the fun! This one-hour theatrical adventure is meant for everyone! There is no admission fee or tickets required for this production.
  • The Bicentennial Banner is up! Stop by the 3rd floor to see the whole banner displayed on the wall behind the main desk.

 

Next Week at LPL
  • Pumpkin Craft Palooza, Thursday, October 14th @ 4:30pm — Brighten your home this autumn with wine cork pumpkins, paper roll pumpkins, and pom pom pumpkins galore! All materials and instruction will be provided. Adults and Teens 13 & Up are welcome.

  • Author Talk with Phil Nadeau, Tuesday, October 19th @ 5:30pm — Lewiston native and former Lewiston Deputy City Administrator Phil Nadeau will speak about and read from his new book, The Unlikeliness of it All – Part 1, at Callahan Hall, Lewiston Public Library. This free, public program will also include a book sale and signing.
  • Living a Life Less Wasteful, Monday, October 25th @ 5:30pm — Julie Olson, co-founder of Zero Waste Maine, will give a virtual presentation about how she reduced her household’s trash by more than 85%, along with a variety of practical skills and strategies viewers can use to reduce their own waste.
  • Great Falls Forum with Tom Caron, Thursday, October 28th @ 11am — The 2021-2022 season of the Great Falls Forum continues on Thursday, October 28th, featuring Tom Caron, studio host of Boston Red Sox baseball on the New England Sports Network (NESN), with a talk entitled “The Golden Age of Boston Sports.” This free, public program will take place virtually via Zoom and streamed to the Lewiston Public Library Facebook page.
  • Pop-in to the Library, starting Tuesday, October 19th @ 4pm — The Library will be offering a free popcorn making demonstration to any participants who would like to drop in and watch on the following days:
    • Tuesday, October 19th from 4-6pm
    • Wednesday, November 17th from 11am-1pm
    • Thursday, December 16th from 4-6pm

Ongoing Programs
  • Teen Manga Battle, accepting submissions — Teen artists can submit one piece of manga art to join the contest. Our two categories are original art and fan art. After one week of voting on Instagram and Discord, we will pick two winners. The best artist in each category will receive a pack of manga-making supplies as a prize.
  • 2-Sentence Horror Story Contest, accepting submissions — Enter your 2-sentence horror story for a chance to win one of three gift card prizes. Anyone can submit one 2-sentence horror story to join the contest. Entries are accepted online or in person at the 2nd Floor Reference Desk.
