What’s New?
  • This week’s Summer Reading theme is “Maine’s Ocean.” Explore Maine’s Oceans by playing the lobster dice game and making a kelp picture this week in the children’s department program room!
  • New Display: The Dog Days of Summer. Looking to stay cool? Beat the heat with these PAWsome dog books and cozy beach reads!
  • One Week Left for Summer Reading! This year’s theme is Oceans of Possibilities, and the program will run until August 13, with events and reading programs for children, teens, and adults.
This Week at LPL
  • Whales of the World, Monday, August 8th at 5:30pm. Marine Mammals of Maine will give a presentation of the various types of whales present in the world and the struggles they face in everyday life and during a stranding.
  • Landing the Lobster, Wednesday, August 10th at 4pm. Hear stories from Maine fisherfolks, learn about lobster biology and find out cool facts about lobsters from the Gulf of Maine Research Institute.
  • Summer Celebration, Saturday, August 13th at 11am. Come join our end of summer reading celebration for games, crafts, giveaways, prizes, mini-golf, and a frozen sweet treat! We’ll also have fun photo opportunities with mermaid tails, pirate treasure, shark heads, and giant fish!
Next Week at LPL
  • Balloon Bonanza, Thursday, August 18th at 4pm. Create a creature and take it for a ride in your very own helium “hot air” balloon. And all week long, come by the library to make your own spinning 3-D paper balloon.
  • Teen Tabletop RPGs, Thursday, August 18th at 4pm. We are hosting a series of one-shot tabletop roleplaying games, in the teen lounge. Supplies will be provided – just bring yourself and your creative mind!
