Preschool Backpacks

New Preschool Backpacks are available to check out in the Children’s Department at the Lewiston Public Library. These three backpacks include books and activities that focus on concepts like shapes, colors and counting. Each preschool backpack is designed to help early learners with Kindergarten readiness and is geared toward ages 3 – 6.

Preschool backpacks must be checked out using an adult Lewiston or Auburn Library card.

The Early Math and Language Initiative (EMLI) generously donated all three preschool backpacks. EMLI creates and supports evidence-based intervention programs in math and language skills development for families of children in under-resourced communities. EMLI is an attempt to mitigate social, cultural and economic barriers and to prepare children for the academic rigors in later years. Co-founders, Mary and Jay, strongly believe in the predictive power of early mathematics on later academic success. The Lewiston Public Library is located downtown at 200 Lisbon Street at the corner of Pine Street. More information on the preschool backpacks is available by contacting the Lewiston Public Library at 513-3133 or LPLKids@lewistonmaine.gov.
