LPL Newsletter 08/21/2023

What’s New?
  • “New” Maker Tables for the Teen Room. LPL staff recently teamed up with the Lewiston Public Works Building Maintenance Crew to bring new life to some old Library furniture. The tables were reinforced, given a new coat of varnish, and locking swivel casters were attached to the bottom of the legs so the tables can easily be moved and rearranged. Combined with some colorful new metal stools, they will now serve as a durable, functional work space for various craft and maker activities in the Library’s Teen Lounge.
  • The Library will be CLOSED on Saturday, September 2nd and Monday, September 4th in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen at 9:30am on Tuesday, September 5th.

This Week @ LPL
  • ArtVan in Kennedy Park, Monday, August 21st at 3pm. ArtVan will be providing hands-on creative art programs this summer in Kennedy Park for children ages 5-14 (ages 5-8 must be accompanied by an adult) on Mondays. All of their projects aim to inspire art-making with a variety of materials for self-expression, personal growth, and fun.
  • Art Walk, Friday, August 25th at 5pm. Our artist is Lynnalbert Leger, a slate sculpting designer based in Lewiston who utilizes slate from Sheldon Slate Products in Monson, ME. He researched how to carve slate from a book by Frank Eliscu at his local library, and other than reading this book, he considers himself a self-taught artist. Come see his work in person on Friday!

Next Week @ LPL
  • Community Book Swap, Monday, August 28th at 11am. Come and trade up to three good condition books from home with one of ours that you haven’t read yet. Choose from a wide variety of genres including mystery, thriller, romance, cookbooks, knitting patterns, and self-help.
