What’s New?
  • Hispanic Heritage Month Display. National Hispanic Heritage Month traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in all Latin American countries. Check out our display in the teen room, or our Pinterest page for dozens of Young Adult book recommendations.
  • Learn Indigenous Languages. Did you know that many of the world’s Indigenous languages are also endangered? By learning one of these languages, you’re already helping preserve heritage and culture.
  • The Library will be closed on 10/10/22 for Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
  • Lewiston Voters, have you considered working at the polls as an election worker? Training is provided and this is a paid position.
This Week at LPL
  • Teen Manga Contest, accepting submissions this October. From October 1st to October 31st, teen artists can submit one piece of manga art to join the contest. The winning artist in each category will receive a pack of manga-making supplies as a prize!
  • Preserving the Harvest, Tuesday, October 4th at 4pm. Ever wonder how to preserve all those great fall apples? This hands-on food preservation workshop, taught by UMaine Extension volunteers and staff, teaches you the basic steps for canning and freezing applesauce
  • Rhythm, Rhyme, and Storytime, Saturday, October 8th at 11am. Rhythm movement creates the perfect opportunity for fun-filled learning as you watch your child develop their vocabulary, creative thinking and listening skills, as well as large and fine motor skills.

  • Great Falls Forum: Soul-Searching Philanthropy, Thursday, October 13th at 12pm. This Great Falls Forum panel will discuss how shifts in philanthropy are impacting policies and practices in Maine-based philanthropies and what this means for the ways philanthropic resources are convened locally.
  • Teen Magic: the Gathering Club, Thursday, October 13th at 3pm. With over 20,000 unique cards, Magic can be played with several styles and strategies. Library staff and volunteers will be available to teach new players and coach developing ones.
  • Meet Children’s Author Hudda Ibrahim, Saturday, October 15th at 11am. We will be hosting Hudda Ibrahim, children’s author of Lula Wants to Wear a Badge and What Color is My Hijab? The event will include activities to engage children, sambusas and tea, and an author talk by Hudda Ibrahim.
Mark Your Calendar
  • Speculative Fiction Book Group, Thursday, October 20th at 5:30pm. Our October selection is Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw, a horror story. Discussion will be led by a Lewiston Public Librarian and will feature open-ended questions and the opportunity for analysis and debate.
