What’s New?

• Action Films in August with Kanopy. Action films are popular with the public but criticized by critics. Kanopy would like to change that critical perception with Action Films in August, a collection of influential movies that have helped define the genre.
• Lesser Known August Holidays. Although August doesn’t have any major national holidays, it does have some fun lesser-known national holidays. This month’s featured display in the Children’s Department showcases books related to three of these lesser-known holidays: National Underwear Day – August 5th, National Tell a Joke Day – August 16th, and National Potato Day – August 19th. Stop by to join in on the silliness and share your favorite joke as we celebrate three very different but equally awesome things this August! 

This Week @ LPL

• ArtVan in Kennedy Park, Monday, August 7th at 3pm. ArtVan will be providing hands-on creative art programs this summer in Kennedy Park for children ages 5-14 (ages 5-8 must be accompanied by an adult) on Mondays. All of their projects aim to inspire art-making with a variety of materials for self-expression, personal growth, and fun.
• Recycled Pop Art, Tuesday, August 8th at 10am. Join us for Michael Albert’s “Modern Pop Art Experience” featuring an artist talk and presentation of examples of his art along with a hands-on collage workshop where participants get to create their own collages using the same materials Mr. Albert uses to create his serious works of art. 
• Mr. Drew and His Animals Too, Wednesday, August 9th at 5:30pm. Join us in Kennedy Park to see Mr. Drew and all of his amazing animals!

Next Week @ LPL

• Summer Centerpieces & Wreaths, Wednesday, August 16th at 5:30pm. Utilizing faux flowers in a variety of colors, artificial butterflies, and paper flowers, participants will create either a centerpiece or a wreath with which to decorate their home.
• Last Day of Summer Reading, Friday, August 18th. Be sure to get your bookmark logs turned in to the library so you can be entered for a chance to win one of our grand prizes!
