New at LPL: Playaway Audiobooks for Adults!

The Lewiston Public Library is thrilled to announce a new addition to their collection: LPL is now circulating Playaway audiobooks for adults! Playaways are plug and play devices, each with a preloaded audiobook, that just require headphones or an aux cord for readers to listen. The library has been circulating audiobooks in this format as part of the Children’s collection for several years and is now starting a collection of adult titles in order to better serve the needs of the community.

Audiobooks for adults, in various formats, have long been a part of the library’s collection, but the goal of adding this new format is to make reading more accessible to more members of the community. Playaways don’t require the use of a cell phone or other device like the eAudiobooks available to LPL cardholders through CloudLibrary, and they don’t split books up over multiple discs that need to be switched out like books on CD.  This makes listening to books more accessible to a variety of patrons, including those with low vision, limited access to technology, or low English literacy.
