Great Falls Forum 2014-2015

The 17th season of the Great Falls Forum is here.

All Great Falls Forum programs take place from 12 noon to 1 pm in the Library’s Callahan Hall. The programs are free and no advance registration is required. The Forum is a bring-your-own lunch event.  Coffee, tea and bottled water are available at the program.

Friday, Sept. 19: Margaret D. McGaughey, appellate chief, U. S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine, “How to Raise a Dangerous Criminal.”

 Thursday, Oct. 2: Andrew Cyr, conductor, Metropolis Ensemble, “Renewing the Source: a New Model for Classical Music.”

Friday, Oct. 17: John Christie, founder and editor in chief, and Naomi Schalit, publisher and senior reporter of the Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, “The Role of Investigative Reporting in Maine’s Democracy.”

Friday, Nov. 21: John Baughman, Associate Professor of Politics, Bates College, ”The 2014 Election: What Did We Learn and What Can We Expect?”

Friday, Jan. 16: Dick Woodbury, Economist and former Maine State Senator, “The Policy and Politics of Reforming Maine’s Tax System.”

Friday, Feb. 27: “Getting Down to Business: Insights from Local Entrepreneurs,” featuring panelists: Kim Jacques (Revelation Massage), Luke Livingston (Baxter Brewing Company), and Colby Michaud (Praxis Production Studios).

Friday, March 20: John Bear Mitchell, Wabanaki Center Outreach & Student Development Coordinator, University of Maine System Native American Waiver Coordinator, and Lecturer in Wabanaki Studies, University of Maine, “Maine Indians, Wabanaki Peoples – our Past and Present Stories.”

Friday, April 17: Dr. Wendy Wolf, President and CEO, Maine Health Access Foundation,”The Affordable Care Act and the Future of Healthcare in Maine.”

 Friday, May 15: Dr. Brett Morrison, Assistant Professor of Neurology, Johns Hopkins Medical School, “Beyond the Ice Bucket Challenge: the Latest Research on Lou Gerhig’s Disease (ALS)”
