Edgar Allen Poe Masquerade Ball

Join us at the Lewiston Public Library’s Second Annual Literary Ball, the Edgar Allan Poe Masquerade on Saturday, October 17th in Callahan Hall. Doors will open at 6:30pm, and the dance will run from 7 to 9pm. The ball will feature waltzing and other Victorian dancing as well as themed refreshments, games, and photo opportunities.
Last year, the library’s Jane Austen Regency Ball, commemorating Austen’s 250th birthday, was a huge success, and participants voted on the Poe theme for the 2026 ball. Those familiar with Poe and his work will find plenty of nods to his work in the décor and activities, but even those who are just interested in a gothic party will be able to enjoy the festivities.
This free, after-hours event is open to participants ages 13 and up. No registration is required. Costumes and fancy dress are encouraged.
Dancers of all ability levels, with or without partners, are welcome to attend, but anyone looking to practice their period-appropriate dancing are welcome to attend the library’s fall Ballroom Dance Classes on Saturdays September 26th and October 3rd at 10:30am.
The Lewiston Public Library is located downtown at 200 Lisbon Street at the corner of Pine Street. More information on this program is available by contacting the Lewiston Public Library at 513-3134 or LPLCirc@lewistonmaine.gov.
