Great Falls Forum – How My Brain Saved My Life Twice: An Hour Of Words & Music

Oct 22, 2026
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The 2026-2027 season of the Great Falls Forum continues Thursday, October 22nd, featuring Amy Stacey Curtis with a talk entitled “How My Brain Saved My Life Twice: An Hour Of Words & Music.” This free, public program will take place from 12 noon to 1 PM in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.

From Lewiston, Maine, Amy Stacey Curtis was a practicing installation artist widely recognized for an 18-year project throughout Maine’s abandoned mill spaces, when she suffered a brain injury caused by Lyme disease she didn’t know she had. After a six-year progression from wheelchair back to her feet, Amy was still struggling with her speech when she intuited that playing the ukulele could help build new neuropathways; for four years, Amy has learned five songs a week, a practice which has helped her regain her normal speech except in environments where her brain is overstimulated. The 2025 winner of Maine’s Got Talent, Amy recently published her memoir “How My Brain Saved My Life Twice” and released her ukulele cover album “Restrung” (available through amystaceycurtis.com).

Join artist, author, and musician Amy Stacey Curtis as she shares brief excerpts from her memoir “How My Brain Saved My Life Twice” interwoven with live ukulele performances of songs she plays to continue to heal. This event celebrates resilience, recovery, and the creative spirit, and concludes with an opportunity for audience questions and conversation. A book signing will follow the event.

Admission is free to all Forum events. Click here to join via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81184270112 . This program is a bring-your-own, brown-bag lunch event. Coffee and bottled water will be available on site at the library.
