Great Falls Forum with Barrett Takesian
The 2018-2019 season of the Great Falls Forum concludes on Thursday, May 16th, featuring Barrett Takesian, President & Executive Director of Portland Community Squash, with a talk entitled “Building Purposeful Communities with Human Capital.” The program will take place from 12 noon to 1 PM in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.
In this Great Falls Forum, Barrett will discuss developing human capital as a precursor to financial capital; the entrepreneurial struggles of starting an untested business model from scratch; and his focus on sustaining Portland Community Squash’s mission for the next 100 years. Lastly, Barrett will foster a conversation about business experts like Jimmy John Shark and the communities that are poised to change lives all around us.
Barrett Takesian was a two-season captain of the Bowdoin Squash Team. After graduating Bowdoin in 2012, Barrett moved to Portland to go to work for an insurance company. Through his volunteer work, Barrett became passionate about youth development. For the next two years, Barrett commuted to Lawrence, MA to learn the Squash + Education framework, while also running programs and building support for a new facility in Portland, ME. In 2016, Barrett returned to Portland full-time to build the Portland Community Squash Center at 66 Noyes Street, Portland, ME. As of 2019, Portland Community Squash employs 11 staff members and serves 200 students and 300 adults. Barrett was named US Olympic Committee Developmental Coach of the Year in 2017 for his work designing and implementing the youth and adult programs at PCS.
Admission is free to all Forum events and no reservations are required. This program is a bring-your-own, brown-bag lunch event. Coffee, tea and bottled water will be available on site at the library.
The Great Falls Forum is a monthly, brown-bag speaker series featuring statewide and regional leaders in public policy, business, academia and the arts. The programs are free, open to all and no reservations are required. Coffee, tea and bottled water are provided for a donation at the event. The Forum is a co-sponsorship of the Sun Journal, Bates College, Maple Way Dental Care, and LPL.
