Beginning Saturday, January 11th, stay active this winter in Museum L-A’s third senior arts workshop, in partnership with LPL! This program is funded by the Seeding Vitality Arts & Aroha Philanthropies Arts education programs, and all workshop dates will take place in the Library’s Callahan Hall.

Participants in this eight-week workshop will learn a selection of traditional dances representing the heritage of our local community. Cindy Larock will cover a new style of dance including New England contra dances and French Canadian contres, sets carrés (square dances) and quadrilles, as well as an introduction to Quebecois step dancing (la gigue).

At the conclusion of the course, participants will demonstrate what they have learned in a culminating event that will be free and open to the public. Not only will they be able to dance these dances with ease, but should also be able to teach many of them to friends and family members!

We are accepting registrations for this workshop now! Participation in the program is free, but registrants must be 55 or better! If not and you would like to participate, register with someone in the 55+ age group. Register online by filling out the form at www.museumla.org or by calling the museum at 207-333-3881.

All participants must be registered for the workshop prior to January 10.

About Seeding Vitality Arts & Aroha Philanthropies Arts education programs – those that inspire and enable older adults to learn, make and share the arts in ways that are novel, complex and socially engaging – are a subset of the broad field of creative aging.

They are led by teaching artists whose creative process and understanding of older adults bring connection, improved health and well-being, and a renewed sense of purpose to older adults in community and residential settings. Aroha Philanthropies champions arts programs that keep us vital, joyful and engaged by unleashing the transformative power of creativity in those 55+.
