Join the Lewiston Public Library on Wednesday, June 10th, as we host Dr. Katie Burns, an ecologist and science communicator based in Midcoast Maine. She has worked in the fields of ecology and conservation for over 13 years, focusing mainly on native insect pollinators. In 2021, she completed her PhD on the contributions and conservation of insect pollinators in Ireland. She is deeply passionate about introducing folks to the miniature worlds that surround us, but so often go unnoticed!

The Buzz on Maine’s Insect Pollinators – Maine is home to a colorful variety of insect pollinators, all of whom contribute to the pollination of our wild plants, food crops, and garden flowers. Unfortunately, many of these insects are facing threats in the environment that are contributing to their decline. Luckily, there are plenty of actions that we can take to support our native pollinator neighbors! Join Dr. Katie Burns, an ecologist and science communicator, as she introduces you to Maine’s native, wild pollinators, debunks common myths and misconceptions about pollinators, and teaches you how to support these important critters – even without a yard or a garden!

This presentation is recommended for ages 18+. Because space is limited, registration is required. For more information or to register for this event, please contact the Adult Services Department at lplreference@gmail.com or 207-513-3135.

The Lewiston Public Library is located downtown at 200 Lisbon Street at the corner of Pine Street.
