All About Butterflies! 🦋

The Lewiston Public Library will be hosting The Colorful World of Butterflies in Callahan Hall on Wednesday, August 8^th at 5:30PM for kids ages 5 – 12, siblings welcome.

Join us to see wonderful slides of our local butterflies, presented by Jerry Schneider, the Butterfly Guy. Jerry will answer questions such as: How can we attract more butterflies to our back yards? What are some ways we can conserve butterfly habitat?  What does a good butterfly garden look like?  When, how, and why do Monarch butterflies go to Mexico?

Jerry will bring displays of butterflies and moths, cocoons, and sometimes caterpillars. Kids will then be able to create their own colorful butterfly t-shirt to take home!

Registration is required as there are only 40 available spots.

If all of the spots are filled you may request to be put on the waiting list.

Participation in this event counts towards the Library’s Summer Reading program.

The 2026 Summer Reading program at Lewiston Public Library runs from June to August with the theme of Read, Make, and Explore. We are encouraging participants not only to read or listen to books but also make a new craft or recipe or explore a favorite place in our beautiful city or a new landmark in our wondrous state.

Jerry Schneider, inventor of the award-winning Butterfly Game in 2001, has presented nature programs in schools and libraries for the past 24 years throughout the Eastern U.S. His programs help inspire youth and adults to pay more attention to our friends, the butterflies, bees, bats, and other pollinators.
